Amazing how this takes on a different depth by doing this filter. How do you pick the colors to use in the filter?

Chromatic filters

Thank you for your comments everyone ,
Hi Moon puppy , I just pick oil colours at random , it does not really matter what you use or how bright they are as you are diluting them down to such an extent that even the brightest colours are usable ,you just wet a brush with clean white spirit and then go over the whole vehicle until only the smallest trace of the colour remains to give the base depth and subtle variation in its original shades.

Todays update

Post  Highlander on Fri Mar 06, 2009 12:14 am

Exhaust started , basecoat is Salmon pink with layers of different browns building up and then a red brown wash added ,once this dries I will treat it with red and brown pastels , chipping started and some rust and rust streaking added hopefully to give it that winter feel ,I will finish the chipping and rust tommorow then work on something else for a few days Twisted Evil before I do the wheels and tracks

some free time so . . .

Post  Highlander on Fri Mar 06, 2009 3:40 pm

I decided to do a bit more as I ended up with a quiet day at work ,

I started to add pure white dots and edges to the top edge of the whitewash and also on the edges of the scratches and chips ,this acts as a highlight and gives the whitewash more depth ,a simple touch but it makes all the difference I think ,I also added another deeper wash to the exhaust and did some work on the mesh grills ,there are some shiney bits but it was still wet as I took the photo

Kewl!
I think this is how you guys obtain what I've been calling the "Weight and Mass" of some of these builds. Wonder how this would translate to a Flying Thingy.... scratch

A little base progress

Post  Highlander on Wed Mar 11, 2009 11:02 pm

After looking at the base I decided to change the building from a ruin to an undamaged building hoping this will let me add more icicles etc from the roof edge , I made a new end wall and texured it with mr surfacer ( I'm going to put climbing plant over this end I think ,no leaves just the vine structure ) , then I made a plasticard box structure to cover the interior hole and finally added a plasticard roof ,this will serve as a base to add tiles which I will also make from plasticard ,I have some other slight mods to do to the base but at least it is starting to take shape

That is a great idea Brian . I am looking forward to seeing your concept become visualised , Hmmmm maybe if it is an aggressive vine there may still be some dead folliage on the branches , ie plus model autumn leaves , just to give some relief ?

Nice scratch built base! The frame edges look very well too.

What dimensions has the base?

re Base

Post  Highlander on Thu Mar 12, 2009 9:29 am

Hi Johnny

The base is not scratch built , It is by a company called Monroe Perdu ,I just decided to change the building a bit , the base is 20cm x 20cm ,a nice size for smaller vehicles , the company says it will take a Panther but I tried it and it overhangs the edges .

Almost a waterwheel ! , and an opinion please

Post  Highlander on Fri Mar 13, 2009 12:38 am

OK

Here we have todays progress ,we nearly have a waterwheel , it is made out of laser cut card stock and goes together very well ,the stone bearers are resin and the shaft is a wooden dowel ,I think it looks pretty good and should be interesting to see all weathered and frozen

I would like to know your opinion on which figure/s looks better from the three below or if anyone has any other suggestions .
