Miniart US Tankcrew NW- Europe

Photobucket

Always a sucker for US-Tankcrews I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one.
you get five figures on two grey sprues.
The first thing I noticed when opening the box, there is surprisingly a lot of flash, I dunno if this was just my
particular production batch but if so it's not so pleasant.
The guys wear all winter clothing, the commander has a mackinaw.
My impression is that the clothing looks crisply enough, with good natural looking folds and creases, some small parts of the uniforms
are separate for extra detail. specially the shoe-pacs look pretty convincing.

now for the heads... this is a real let-down. they are coarse and plain butt-ugly.
reminded me of some good-ole italeri vintage stuff, yes, that bad.. affraid

never the faint-hearted I tried to paint them anyway, considering myself not such a bad figure-painter but after several runs with lavish application of
paint-killer for yet anotiher re-run, I just gave up. Don't know if it's just me but I think it's not worth the pain(t) bothering with them.
get some decent resin-noggins and you gonna be fine.

so apart from the heads, all in all I think you get a real nice set of plastic figures for your Shermy in some late ardennes diorama.

MTom
Very cool review...
I saw these figures and thought the same thing, Way cool. Now that fact that I haven't
built a Sherman in forever (and the last one was a Soviet Lend Least) I know most people can't believe that I would make it Soviet. scratch lol!
But they do have some great looking relaxed poses. Winter uniforms are a plus too, since there really aren't that many around.
Like you said, I'm sure there a some great heads that would make these guys really pop.
Thanks again for the review.
I might just have to look into them and maybe find an M-18 Helcat or M-10 to put them in. I think that would be really sweet too.
Great review. Thanks for posting it.

Great Set

Post  navyman13 on Tue May 08, 2012 1:22 am

Greetings all,

I have three of the figures manning my Italeri M24 Chaffee in a Winter scene (what else) entered in the MRC Model Contest. This crew is fantastic and yes there is some extra flash and the poses are a little odd to speak of the tiny faults but the best of the figures is here with this set. Be sure to look at my FB page Hobbies in a Barn when you get a chance for more detailed photos of this great set.

Thanks to all viewers,

John Staehle, New Mexico, USA!

miniart US Tank Crew

Post  mtom59 on Thu Jul 19, 2012 1:52 pm

Hi Shawn,

Thank you very much for your friendly feedback.
Always appreciate the opinion of a fellow- modeller.

I finished all figures meanwhile and I am not so enthusiastic about them anymore as I was in the beginning.
They do have some slightly odd poses and the uniforms miss this nitty-gritty baggy appearance.
They look pretty tight to me and the guys are small around the hips and while this is generally appreciated in a male physique by they ladies (so I've heard)
I don't want to have my average GI Tanker look like a spanish flamenco dancer.

All in all they are still not bad and I do like miniarts approach.
