New producer - Uschi Van Der Rosten

Post  Matt Stephenson on Thu Aug 11, 2011 4:18 pm

Hello TNT'ers,

Stumbled across this new producer (new to me anyway), while searching the web for info on the german "disc camo" found mostly on Panthers and some Jagdpanzer IV's.
The manufacturer, Uschi Van Der Rosten produces an interesting set of masks/stencils for the german disc camo pattern, in addition to sets of wood grain decals which I image would find a home mostly on WW1 heinous things of the wing.
The link is http://www.uschivdr.com/shop/#cc-m-product-5272250711
Sorry I cant post any pics, Im not computer savvy. Have a look at the website and check their pics out for yourself.

This system, (to me) looks eaiser than trying to apply large decals to the side of a Panther, and the stencils appear to be re-usable. The pattern also appears to closely replicate the pattern for the disc camo template found in the colour plates of the "Duel in the Mist" book. I've ordered a set and will give a review once its arrived and I've had a chance to have a play.

Matt

Hi Matt

Thanks for sharing. I'm not familiar with this site, so worth a visit.

Well Matt , thanks heaps for the info , without doubt Disc cam would have to be one of the most attractive yet complex cam schemes and hopefully this may make our job much easier . Looking forward to your review and trying them myself Very Happy .

Nice find Matt. The disc pattern is definitely one I want to to try but have always been wary of trying it. Although I believe that there's a template included with Duel in the Mist, this is a nice alternative.

New producer - Uschi Van Der Rosten

Post  Matt Stephenson on Tue Sep 06, 2011 12:15 pm

Hi TnTer's,

Well I recieved a the Disc Camouflage masks from Uschi Van Der Rosten last week, and have finally found some time to have a play with it.
The masks come well packaged with an A5 size sheet of pre-cut dics masks, and a fold out instruction sheet printed in colour.

I found a spare panther turret and sprayed a 'generic' camouflage on one side....nothin too fancy as i was in a rush and this turret would never be used for anything other than mucking around. Smile

I've then applied the mask, with some masking tape along the edges. I did rush this stage a bit as when I lifted the mask template from the backing sheet, some if the small sections that make the discs came with it. These were accidently transferred onto the side of the turret...... I did mention that this was a rush??? Embarassed

And now the final result (with a few touch ups for the odd mistake and paint bleed)

Overall, Im very impressed and think that this is a very convincing way to reproduce this iconic style of camouflage. The masking system gets easier to use with some practice, and with a little more care and effort than what I've dispalyed here a great result can be expected. What I find especially good about this system is that when you've finished painting, the section of mask used can be replaced back onto the sheet for use on later projects. The price of the disc template wasn't expensive, and what I would consider to be competative when you compare it with the other options currently available on the market, and will definitely save you time if you were to use the 'balls of blu-tac' method. A big thanks to Alex from Uschi Van Der Rosten for promptly mailing my order from Germany to Australia and having it to me in just over a week. Very Happy

Matt.

Hi Matt, that looks pretty sweet.

Got my hands on some of his burnishing/blackening agent for Friul metal tracks, when I try it I'll post results in my KV-2 build log.

Thanks mate, cheers.
