Tuning into the radio

Post  Jenny Ryan on Thu Jan 22, 2009 11:34 am

Thank you Luiz , Bob & Laura for your encouragement !

Well the main thing that needed to be added to the Right hand sponson was the radio & intercom rack .

Here is the real one .

Here is the bare rack .

Here it is fitted into the sponson with the radios fitted & transformers , none of the radios or transformers are glued in , so I can paint them seperately .

Thanks Dom , Rick & Shaggy for the encouraging words . cheers

Well I have finished the internal details of the left hand sponson now .

As you can see this is not as busy as the right hand sponson , a traffic paddle behind the periscope , a bracket for the coolant exchange hose , I replaced the hose with appropriate sized solder , an Mp 40 sits in its bracket & the box behind is stowage for the headphones & throat microphone for the Commander & Gunner .

The same area on the real vehicle , note the brackets for all the equipment shown on my model

The forward bulkhead , I used the voyager PE spare aerial stowage & cut an armourscale aerial back to the standard SPG Fug 5 issue 2.8m aerial , the empty slot will be for the mounted aerial .

More soon . Very Happy

Great work on the PE! I see you added wire grab handles to the radio sets...nice detail!

Do you think the fenders would fit the Tamiya Wespe? I've searched everywhere for PE fenders (but missed these).

Fenders for Wespe

Post  Jenny Ryan on Sat Jan 24, 2009 8:03 am

Hi Noel ,

Well I checked , they are the correct width & shape , but if you look at the Tamiya Wespe it has dot pattern anti slip where the set I have has cross pattern anti slip pattern , so you will have to check reference pictures to see if they used this pattern on them , you can only use about half the pattern as the second half is without tread pattern at all .

I also checked the Voyager Pz II C fenders PE35215 1/35 Fenders for WWII Pz.KPfw. II Early Version (For DRAGON)

but they have the same pattern as the Panzer II F / Marder II fender .

sorry - slipped through this morning! i haven't seen that there was an update!

the LHS looks awesome jenny but one of those vertical thingythingies looks a little bit crooked ... may be the perspective! it's not of that importance at all anyway i just wanted to mention! Smile

this will look spectacular when attached to the vehicle in any case! you're a hell of a modeller!

I am glad you asked Laura

Post  Jenny Ryan on Sun Jan 25, 2009 8:44 am

Laura , this is in fact spaced armour applied to both sponson cheeks , this is to match the armour thickness of the armoured gun shield . If you look at the Jenny's Challenge vehicle , you will notice it immitates the armour set up .

The correct term for this armour is in fact "thingythingies" . Very Happy

Updates, details, "thingythingies", everything done to perfection. This is really coming along extremely well, should give you time for a couple more entries.

Ohhhh !!!! I just love all the brass, this is looking so sweet. And by the way, the round thingie on a stick is not a traffic paddle. It's some kind of a wrench for use if the crew needs to get a round out of the breech in the event of a misfire / dud, or whatever reason. Not really sure how it works, but that is what it is.

Well the book I have reviewed here has it clearly identified as being a holder for a traffic paddle so I would like to know where you have sourced the information & perhaps have a third source to see which one is correct . I do not want to paint it wrong .

Traffic paddle ?

Post  G Cooper on Tue Jan 27, 2009 7:21 am

Well, this is to much like thinking for me. I can't really remember where I saw this, but I will try to find where I saw it, and let you know. If you have reference that tells you it is a traffic paddle then that is obviously more solid than some one telling you " I think " about anything. For now, go with the paddle, and I will see what, if anything; my muddled mind can pull out as an alternate possibility on this. Embarassed

No worries , I have taken this book as being gospel but I cannot see a picture of one being stowed there . Actually the only wartime picture of this area has a map case conveniently hung off the periscope & blocking it ! Rolling Eyes

Maybe someone else can confirm what it is for sure ?

And now it's time for a BIG GUN

Post  Jenny Ryan on Tue Jan 27, 2009 11:01 am

Thank you for the lovely comments everybody !

Jenny's loose & she is PAKin' a 75mm gun ! Twisted Evil

The gun has had replacement PE gun shields & an assortment of smaller details added , the tiny spacer rivets are included in the Voyager set as is the Resin cover over the muzzle brake , the aluminium barrel is from the DML kit .

I have been building the ammunition lockers , there are three in total on the rear engine deck , this one is the only one which I will build in the open position so it will speed up construction on the other two considerably .

The internal strengtheners while not 100 % straight , make the construction very rigid , instead of putting full shell cases in the ammunition locker I will add discs cut from a punch & die to the back of the rear plates to centre them in the holes .

More soon Very Happy
